Childbirth Education

Breastfeeding - Certified Lactation Consultants introduce expectant Mothers and their partners to the advantages of breastfeeding, proper techniques, and what to expect in the first few weeks at home. Further discussion includes choosing a breast pump, and collection and storage of breast milk. Spouses are encouraged to attend. Labor Series - This Childbirth Education series prepares the expectant mother and her partner for all aspects of labor and birth. This series will include knowledge of the natural labor process, as well as a variety of coping measures, ranging from relaxation and breathing, to available medical options. A tour of the Maternity Center will be included.   Schedule this class at 28-30 weeks. This series meets one night per week for 5 weeks. Parenting Your Newborn - This class helps prepare parents for their new baby and their transition into parenthood. Parents-to-be will learn about normal newborn appearance and behaviors, procedures after birth, basic care of their newborn, and changes in life as a new parent. Sibling ClassThis class prepares children (2 ½ -9 YRS) on becoming a sibling. They will participate in activities to learn about the baby and their new role in the family. A tour of the Maternity Center is included.
9-10:30am class 5-9 year olds.  11am – 12pm class 2 ½ - 4 year olds.  Cost: $15.00 
Please bring a favorite doll or stuffed animal to class. Meet in main lobby of hospital.

Introduction to Underwater Birth - Underwater birth is an alternative birthing option. This class includes a discussion of the history of water births, the benefits of laboring and birthing in water, and what to expect during the birthing process.  A movie of an underwater birth is shown along with a question and answer period you will also receive a tour of the birthing tub. Cost:  $25.00

NAS (Neonatal Narcotic Abstinence Syndrome) - Neonatal Narcotic Abstinence Syndrome is a condition experienced by newborn babies who were exposed to methadone or narcotics during pregnancy. The baby goes through a period of drug withdrawal. Withdrawal from narcotics or methadone affects babies differently. Most babies who experience symptoms need to remain in the hospital for treatment for at least two weeks. During this time, you can help care for your baby by being involved in his or her care. All moms currently enrolled in a methadone treatment program who will deliver at Elliot Hospital are encouraged to attend. Partners are welcome but must be registered as well Cost: $0.00     This class is offered the 2nd Wednesday of every month.

Boot Camp for New Dads - A program designed to bring new Dads and Dads-to-be together to discuss the joys and responsibilities of fatherhood. Discussion includes caring for your newborn, communicating with your partner, and preparing for your new family.  Cost: $25.00   Time: 9am-12pm  Elliot Childcare Center 450 Massabesic Street

Prenatal Yoga- Prenatal yoga provides movements, breath work, relaxation methods and meditation selected to physically and emotionally prepare the pregnant woman for the changes that happen during the childbearing year.  Through these practices, she learns to trust her body to bring forth her baby as it instinctively knows how to do, so that when she enters labor, the techniques flow naturally into her consciousness, creating the opportunity for a positive and empowering birth experience.  This class can be started at any time during pregnancy, with doctors permission.  Please bring a cushion or a blanket that can be folded to sit on.  Cost: $90   Time: 6:45 – 7:30pm  Location:  Elliot Childcare Center 450 Massabesic Street

Senior Health Fitness

All classes are for participants 50+.  Classes are held at the Elliot Senior Health Center 138 Webster Street in Manchester.

Body Balance – This class is a combination of low-impact aerobics, strength training and stretching.  It is a perfect combination to improve muscular and cardio endurance, along with gentle stretching, to enhance overall well-being.  Participants will increase their balance, as well as flexibility, while working out in a senior friendly environment. Cost:  $45.00

Cardio Sculpt - A well balanced mix of cardio movements, strength training, balance and stretching exercises. Designed to increase stamina, as well as overall strength; ending with a relaxing mix of stretches to improve range of motion.  Cost:  $55.00

Chair Aerobics Plus – This class consist of cardiovascular exercises that begin in the chair and progress to standing exercises while utilizing the chair for balance. Appling cardio and strength training for endurance and ending with gentle flow movements to improve range of motion and mobility; a great beginners program designed for seniors. Cost: $55.00

Strength Training – This class improves strength and stamina with a 10 minute, low impact warm up followed with a weight routine structured to improve mobility, strength and posture.  Participants will utilize hand weights, balancing movements and floor mat exercises.  Cost:  $55.00

Tai Chi – Level 1 - This is an exclusive trademark program called Senior Friendly Tai Chi & Senior Safe Tai Chi. It is based on the Yang Style, the most popular in the world today, but modified just for seniors. It incorporates Qigong warm-up and then a form of slow, continuous and graceful movements to increase strength, range of motion, balance and relaxation. It also refers to Tai Chi's history as an art of self defense.  Cost: $60.00

Tai Chi – Level 2 - This program builds on the Level 1 fundamentals and adds more linear motion. It usually requires the completion of three or four Level 1 sessions before moving to level 2. Tai Chi improves balance and body movements as well as overall health and well-being.  Cost: $60.00

Fusion- This class is a dynamic mix of exercises all in one program, beginning with cardio movements to increase cardiovascular health, followed with strength training from head to toe to improve muscular endurance and ending with basic pilate and yoga moves to improve core strength and balance. Core formation- A dynamic balance of abdominal and back exercises utilizing body weight as well as free weights to strengthen and form your core, along with gentle yoga poses to provide support for your spine. Cost:  $45.00

Gym Membership - The Elliot Senior Fitness Center is designed specifically for those 50 and older. The fitness center consists of cardiovascular equipment and a full body strength training circuit. One-on-one orientations as well as personalized exercise programs to fit individual needs. Our team of exercise specialist are here to help integrate physical activity safely into yours life.  Come work out in a safe, supervised, fun and non-competitive environment. Membership is on-going and members may join at any time. Cost:  $75.00 for 3 months or $25.00 per month

Community Fitness

Fit and FeistyThis fitness class is for individuals 50+. It combines low impact aerobics and strength training exercises. You will develop coordination, endurance, strength, and balance.   Cost: $45.00

Gentle Yoga - Gentle Yoga is designed to promote total health and well-being through stretching, strengthening and relaxing. This class uses breath and movement to feel the release of physical and mental tension and to increase body/mind awareness. Good for the beginner.   Cost:  $80.00

Total Body Strength and Tone - Start your day right with this total body workout.  It offers strength training to all the major muscle groups and abs using a variety of exercise equipment.  This class is ideal for beginners to advanced exercisers.   Cost: $80.00

Full Body Fusion - A fusion of strength training exercise using body weight and hand-weights, cardiovascular intervals, plyometrics, yoga, pilates, core work and stretching.  Keeps your body guessing!   Cost: $80.00

Yoga Core – Yoga core focuses on increasing strength of the abdominals, low back, and core stabilizer muscles while promoting total health and well being through stretching, strengthening, and relaxing.  Yoga core uses breath and movement to fell the release of physical and mental tension and to increase body and mind awareness.  This class is slightly more challenging than Gentle Yoga.

Working Well

Heartsaver CPR - This course is designed to target all lay rescuers (school children, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death) and teach them basic life support for adults and pediatrics.  Learn the skills needed to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and relieving Foreign-body airway obstruction (choking).  Certification and AHA Textbook received.  Reading material is sent to your prior to the class once payment is received.  Cost:  $38.00
Saturdays 8:00-11:00am - January 7, March 3, May 5, July 14, September 8, or November 3.

Heartsaver First Aid - This course is designed to teach techniques to give immediate care to an injured, suddenly ill person, or someone involved in a life threatening situation.  You will also learn when to alert medical personnel.   Certification and AHA Textbook received.   Reading material is sent to your prior to the class once payment is received.  Cost:  $38.00
Wednesdays 6:00-9:00pm – January 11, April 11, July 11 or October 10.

CPR for New or Expired Health Care Providers - The Basic Life Support  for Health Care Providers is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen), and relief of Foreign-body Airway Obstruction.  Healthcare Providers include physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapist, physical and occupational therapist, etc.  Reading material is sent to your prior to the class once payment is received.  Cost:  $63.00

Do You Know Your Numbers? – Fasting Lipid Profile with Glucose or Non-Fasting Total/HDL Cholesterol  -
Lipid Profile includes a complete breakdown of HDL(good cholesterol), LDL(bad cholesterol), triglycerides and glucose.  A 12 hour fast is required.  No food except for medications and water. Cost: $25.00  
 
Total cholesterol with HDL(good cholesterol) breakdown and cholesterol ratio.  No fasting is required.  Cost:  $21.00

 Are you at risk for Osteoporosis? – Osteoporosis Screenings – This screening is suggested for both men and women to assess their risk for Osteoporosis.  You will receive a measure of your Bone Mineral Density through and ultrasound of your bare heel.  Each client will receive a printed report and diagram of results to share with their physician.  A review of your results are done in private, they are confidential and take about 10 minutes.  The results are set up for awareness and to inform you of any risk you may be at.  You will also be informed if you should need any further testing.   Cost:  $22.00

Health Coaching – You will receive an individual health evaluation to help identify your health goals and establish a comprehensive treatment plan to reduce your risk for disease or manage your condition.  Ongoing Health Coaching sessions are available upon request.  Call the Welliot at River's Edge 663-4200 Cost:  $29.00

LIVE BETTER INSTITUTE
