  • NEONATAL RESUSCITATION PROGRAM REGISTRATION

The NEONATAL RESUSCITATION PROGRAM is a standardized course created to meet the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation that every birth be attended by at least one person whose primary responsibility is to initiate neonatal resuscitation and either that person, or another person who is immediately available, be able to perform all skills required for a complete resuscitation.  The courses are designed for health care providers whose responsibilities may require them to participate in neonatal resuscitations.

The NRP exam and skills evaluations are based on the information from the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 5th Edition.  This self-study module contains lesson reviews and performance checklists that you may use to assess your understanding of the material and your ability to perform the required skills.
This is an evaluation course and you must be prepared in advance to pass the written exam and skills evaluation.  You will need to read and study the information prior to the course.  The course agenda includes the NRP Neonatal Resuscitation DVD, a brief review of the key points of each chapter, a multiple-choice exam, skills evaluations, and participation in Megacode scenarios.  The written exam for the Initial Certification course is done on the first night; the skills evaluations and Megacode scenarios are done on the second night.  Written exams may also be done prior to the course, on line at www.aap.org/nrp for a fee; the certificate of completion must be presented prior to participation in the skills and Megacode evaluations.  Practice sessions for the performance skills are available 30 minutes before the course.

The Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation,5th Edition is available, in textbook and/or DVD, by loan from the Division of Neonatology and should be returned to the NRP instructor at the end of the course.  Please contact Judy Booth, NNP or Diane Sanchioni at 663-2692 for a textbook/DVD.  Order forms are available if you wish to purchase your own textbook/DVD.
