    The Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit (CICU)

    CICU is located on the fifth floor of the Elliot Hospital. The unit is comprised of three private rooms and fourteen semi-private rooms. Each nurses' station is equipped with a central monitoring system to provide cardiac monitoring for every patient.

    The CICU provides care to inpatients and outpatients with cardiac medical diagnoses. They may require heart rhythm management, pacemaker, AICD implantation or revision, angioplasty, stent insertion, or cardiac diagnostic studies. Medical diagnoses include but are not limited to coronary artery disease, angina myocardial ischemia, myocardial infarction, dysrhythmia, syncope, congestive heart failure, drug or substance overdose, and chest pain.

    Patients are also treated on an outpatient capacity for acute drug testing, cardiac catheterizations, cardioversion, and electrophysiological/ablation studies. All of our patients are assessed and reviewed through an interdisciplinary team approach. The disciplines that work collaboratively on this unit include:

    •  Speech Therapy

    •  Pharmacy

    •  Respiratory Therapy

    •  Pastoral Care

    •  Cardiac Rehab

    Nursing care on CICU is based on the Elliot Hospital Model of Care (Caring, Competence, Continuity, and Teamwork).

We take pride in our collaborative relationships with our patients, their families, and all ancillary services that are involved in returning our patients to health and wellness.

    Visiting

    The Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Visiting hours on CICU are 12 Noon until 8:00 PM. Children under 14 years of age are permitted to visit when supervised by an adult visitor.
