EECP™ or E nhanced E xternal C ounter p ulsation, is a non-surgical treatment for Angina that is performed on an outpatient basis.

More than seven million people in the U.S. suffer with angina. When medication has proven inadequate, three of the main options for treating chronic stable angina are: EECP™ , balloon angioplasty/stent or coronary artery bypass surgery.

EECP™ is an alternative to Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery and coronary interventions. Research suggests that EECP™ works by stimulating the formation of small blood vessels (collaterals) to create natural bypasses around narrowed or blocked arteries. Research also suggests EECP™ may stimulate changes to vessel walls that result in their relaxation (dilation).

EECP™ is a safe and effective treatment option because it….

Does not cause trauma to patients

    Is non-invasive

Is administered on an outpatient basis

Carries little or no risk for patients

    What is the actual treatment?

Here's how the EECP™ Treatment works:

    •  You lie comfortably on a special therapy bed.

    •  A series of cuffs (similar to blood pressure cuffs) are wrapped around your legs and hips.

    •  You are monitored by a EKG machine so the cuffs inflate and deflate in sync with your heartbeat.

    •  During the heart's resting phase, when it normally receives its supply of blood, the cuffs rapidly inflate, pushing oxygen-rich blood toward your heart.

    •  Just before your heart begins to pump again, the cuffs rapidly deflate and blood leaves your heart without the muscle having to work as hard.

    •  Each treatment lasts for one hour. Typically symptom reduction is achieved with 35 treatment sessions.

    Referral and Insurance Information

A physician referral is required. Your physician will make sure that you are a candidate for the treatments. This may require some preliminary tests to be performed prior to EECP™ therapy.

EECP™ is an FDA approved procedure and is covered by Medicare as well as most other major insurances.
