Folkways Geropsychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program
Older adults have significant life stressors that can lead to emotional problems (loss of a loved one, loss of role identity, loss of physical function, etc) Often, older adults are left to face a multitude of these stressors with limited financial and physical resources and decreased social supports. The Folkways Program at Elliot Hospital offers an atmosphere designed to meet the individual needs of people whose problems require significant intensive outpatient intervention on a daily basis, rather than an inpatient stay. Our goal is to improve each person's mental health thereby restoring their sense of confidence, competence and self-esteem. The Folkways program offers treatment to people 60 years and older, who are experiencing problems with depression, anxiety, panic attacks and other emotional problems. The Folkways Program uses a multidisciplinary team approach, which includes a geriatric psychiatrist, registered nurses with specialization in mental health, licensed clinical social workers and occupational therapists. A clinical dietitian and other specialists also assist our team in treating patients. In addition, because we are located at Elliot Hospital, individuals can benefit from other available programs and medical services when necessary.

The Folkways Program is located at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH. Services are offered Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Transportation may be provided for people who live within the Greater Manchester area. A healthy lunch is provided daily. The length of program participation depends on the individualized treatment plan. However, people are generally involved in the program for 8-10 weeks. The program has been designed to adhere to Medicare requirements and most insurance supplements will cover all or part of the cost of treatment.
