The Davison Laser Center is a vital and valuable resource to both Elliot Hospital and the greater Manchester community, offering medical and surgical laser treatments and procedures to both inpatient and outpatients. Established in 1985, by Robert and Lucille Davison, the center was founded for the purpose of promoting laser technology in the medical/surgical field and procuring and installing of equipment and materials for a Regional Laser Center at the Elliot Hospital.
CO2 Laser:
The 55 Watt Lasersonic laser is used in several surgical specialties. The CO2 Laser is used with a handpiece, surgical laparoscope or with attachments for an operating microscope. Many minimally invasive intra-abdominal procedures and microscopic surgical approaches benefit from this technology. It's versatility additionally includes dermatologic removal of benign skin lesions and ENT applications such as treatment of vocal cord polyps/lesions and selected ear surgeries.

Holmium Laser:
The 100 watt Holmium Laser is used in surgical procedures
requiring incision and vaporization of soft tissue or for the fragmentation
of urinary stones located in the bladder, ureter, and ureteropelvic junction
of the kidney. Holmium Laser Ablation of the Prostate (HoLAP) is a new
procedure for treating Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH). With this
application, larger prostates are safely and effectively treated with
immediate relief of symptoms and fewer side effects, than with traditional
methods.

Ophthalmic Lasers: Argon and EyeLite 532
:
These lasers are designed to treat several ocular diseases
of the eye. They are well suited for ophthalmic surgery because of
the minimal effect on transparent tissues, delivering laser energy through
the cornea, lens, and vitreous humor to the opaque structures of
the eye. This allows many conditions, such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal
detachments, and senile macular degeneration.

Erbium: YAG Laser:
The Erbium:Yag Laser offers state-of-the-art facial
treatments - from the superficial “Arctic Peel” to the deeper
microlaser peels, as well as full facial skin resurfacing. Treatments
are currently being offered at The Spa Within, located in the Elliot
Hospital.

V-Beam Pulsed Dye Laser:
This laser selectively treats plantar warts without adversely affecting the surrounding skin. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the small blood vessels supplying the wart, causing the vessels to clot and leading to the destruction of the wart. The V-Beam laser has a cooling device that applies liquid nitrogen to the skin just prior to each laser pulse, allowing for increased patient comfort and more effective treatment. The Davison Laser Center, working with area podiatrists, has a yearly contract with an outside rental company to provide laser treatment of plantar warts. This laser comes to Elliot Hospital on a monthly basis.
