At The Elliot's Intensive Care Unit, we are proud to provide 24/7 coverage with an experienced, skilled, and compassionate team. Gary J. Curcio, MD
Dr. Curcio obtained his Medical Degree form the University of Health Sciences – School of Medicine. Thereafter, he completed his residency in General Surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Upon completion, Dr. Curcio, joined by another surgeon, pioneered the Critical Care, Acute Surgery and Trauma fellowship at Dartmouth Hitchcock. Dr. Curcio is currently a member of The Elliot General Surgical Specialists and working in the areas of Trauma, Acute Surgery, and Critical Care. His specific critical care interests are surgical critical care, neuro-critical care and integrating Trauma, Acute Surgery and Critical Care concepts into the community and rural based hospital settings. Dr. Curcio is board certified in general surgery and critical care by the American College of Surgeons. His interests include sepsis, acute panceatitis mangememt, and hypoadrenalism in critically ill patients.

Henry Ess, DO
Dr. Ess graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2003. After completing his internship year with the Scranton-Temple Residency Program in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he went on to finish his internal medicine residency training through the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. Dr. Ess joined Elliot Hospital in 2006. He is board certified in internal medicine, and currently works as both a hospitalist in internal medicine and a as member of the critical care team in the ICU. He serves as a co-chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, is a member of the Ethics Committee, and also a member of the Critical Care Committee. Currently his interests include management of severe sepsis, and use of bedside ultrasound for rapid assessment in the critically ill patient.

Miguel Gaeta, MD
Dr. Gaeta joined the Division of Trauma, Emergency Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care (TESSCC) at the Massachusetts General Hospital in a joint effort with Elliot General Surgical Specialists to continue their efforts and build upon the excellent Trauma and Emergency Surgical Care already offered to patients at Elliot. Dr. Gaeta received a Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Riverside and his Medical Degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and completed a Surgical Critical Care fellowship and General Surgical residency at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC. Dr. Gaeta is currently board certified by the American College of Surgeons in general surgery, and is board eligible surgical critical care. He is fluent in Spanish.

Steve Loosigian, DO

Steve Loosigian, DO
Dr. Loosigian has been with The Elliot for nine years. He is the director of the hospitalist program at Elliot Hospital and the vast majority of his clinical practice involves critical care medicine. Dr. Loosigian completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston. Dr. Loosigian graduated from medical school at the University of New England in Maine. He also completed a masters degree in biology from Harvard University and a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of Colorado. Dr. Loosigian is board certified in internal medicine.

 

Christopher Brauer, MD
Dr. Brauer has been working at the Elliot Hospital since 2002 as a Hospitalist and began as a dedicated Intensivist when the program began in 2006. His medical training was in New York City at Mount Sinai Medical School where he earned his medical degree in 1999. Dr. Brauer completed his residency training in Internal Medicine in Boston at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center from 1999 to 2002. Dr. Brauer is board certified in internal medicine. His clinical interests include clinical ethics, end of life care, the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of acute ICU delirium.

Laura McPhee, DO
Laura McPhee, DO joined the intensivist program at Elliot Hospital in 2011 after completing her internal medicine residency and pulmonary-critical care fellowship at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She graduated from medical school at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005. Her clinical interests include transfusion medicine and the use of etomidate in sepsis and she is currently an active member of the Stroke Executive Committee. She is board-certified in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine, and board-elligible in critical care.

Electronic Medical Records System

Utilizing our state of the art Electronic Medical Record System, each physician has complete patient data (immunizations, allergies, Lab results, etc.) at their fingertips to enable them to monitor your health needs more closely. If you call after hours, all physicians “on-call” can access this same information, thus providing excellent, all-inclusive care for our patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This versatile Medical Record System also enables our office to electronically transmit prescriptions and refills directly to the pharmacy of your choice.

In addition, our office also has the facilities to take and process X-Rays and to draw most lab work right on site, offering our patients convenient and efficient health care.
