Elliot Health System Expands Cancer Care Options with New Technology at Solinsky Cancer Center

Elliot Health System is expanding treatment options for patients with gynecologic cancers and metastatic brain tumors through the addition of two advanced radiation oncology technologies at the Solinsky Cancer Center. These new capabilities broaden the range of specialized treatments available locally and help ensure patients throughout Southern New Hampshire have access to sophisticated cancer care closer to home.

One of the newest additions is the Siemens Bravos brachytherapy system, a state-of-the-art high dose rate (HDR) treatment system to deliver targeted radiation therapy. Elliot Hospital is the only medical facility in Southern New Hampshire to offer this treatment locally. Women diagnosed with cervical or uterine cancer can receive this highly targeted treatment in our community, without having to travel far distances for this specialized care. This technology gives radiation oncologists greater precision while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. Earlier this year, Elliot's cancer care team treated its first patient using the new brachytherapy system, significantly improving the quality of care for women with gynecologic malignancies.

The Solinsky Cancer Center has also introduced HyperArc®, an advanced form of stereotactic radiosurgery designed for patients with multiple brain metastases. HyperArc technology allows radiation oncologists to treat numerous brain lesions simultaneously using a highly targeted, non-invasive approach. In many cases, treatment can be completed in a single visit lasting only minutes, helping reduce disruptions to the patient's overall cancer treatment plan. HyperArc is available at Elliot's cancer care locations in both Manchester and Londonderry, NH.

Traditionally, patients with multiple brain metastases were often treated with whole-brain radiation therapy. While effective, whole-brain radiation can be associated with long-term side effects affecting memory, concentration, and cognitive function. HyperArc allows physicians to focus radiation directly on tumors while limiting exposure to surrounding healthy tissue, helping reduce treatment-related side effects.
