Elliot Hospital Earns Reverification as ACS Level II Trauma Center

Elliot Hospital has earned reverification as a Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), — a recognition which reinforces our commitment to delivering high-quality, life-saving care across Southern New Hampshire.

The hospital has held this distinction since 2019, building on its earlier designation as a Level III Trauma Center in 2016. Today, it remains the only ACS-verified Level II Trauma Center in Southern New Hampshire, ensuring patients throughout the region have access to advanced trauma care.

“Achieving reverification from the American College of Surgeons reflects the exceptional skill, dedication, and coordination of our entire trauma team,” said Rajan Gupta, MD, MHCDS, FACS, FCCP, trauma medical director and surgical quality officer for Elliot Health System. “This recognition underscores our commitment to delivering timely, evidence-based care for injured patients and continuously improving outcomes for the communities we serve.”

The hospital’s state-of-the-art emergency department is equipped to act fast. It includes three dedicated trauma bays designed for rapid assessment and intervention when every second counts. Once a trauma activation is called, our highly trained multidisciplinary team mobilizes quickly to bring together specialists from across the hospital to deliver expert care.

A regional hub for emergency services, Elliot's Emergency Department sees more than 55,000 visits annually and manages thousands of injury cases each year, including hundreds of high-acuity trauma activations. From traumatic brain injuries and complex fractures to life-threatening internal conditions the trauma team is ready 24/7, with specialists available at a moment's notice.

"Access to high-level trauma care close to home can make a critical difference in patient outcomes," Dr. Gupta added. "Our continued verification ensures that patients in Southern New Hampshire don't have to travel far to receive the advanced care they need in life-threatening situations."

Elliot's continued investment in its trauma services — from advanced facilities and specialized equipment to highly trained clinicians and ongoing performance improvement initiatives — supports its mission to inspire wellness, heal our patients, and serve with compassion in every interaction.
