Elliot Hospital’s Trauma Program Manager Recognized by Rivier University as 2023 Outstanding Nurse/Healthcare Professional

Elliot Health System announces that Lindsey Whelan, MS, RN, CCRN, TCRN, ACCNS-AG, who serves in the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Department, is being recognized by Rivier University as its 2023 Outstanding Nurse/Healthcare Professional. 

Lindsey graduated from Rivier University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Regis College. As Trauma Program Manager, she maintains Elliot Hospital’s accreditation and program development as a Level II Trauma Center. Lindsey joined Elliot Hospital in 2008 as a staff nurse on the Fuller Unit. Since then, she has held the position of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) staff nurse, ICU Resource Nurse, and ICU Nurse Manager prior to entering her position as Trauma Program Manager.

Elliot Health System Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Martha Leighton said, “Lindsey leads with strength, compassion and grace. Every day she demonstrates an unwavering commitment to our patients who are experiencing acute care needs and trauma. She is incredibly deserving of this recognition and I am proud that she is a part of our team.”

The honor is given to alumni who utilize their education to make a difference in their profession. The healthcare award from Rivier University specifically goes to healthcare employees who demonstrate a commitment to excellence and service to patients, as well as demonstrate achievement in their profession.

“It is an honor to be recognized and receive this award from Rivier. In 2020 to 2021, I was activated with the Air National Guard as a Chief Clinical Officer for Task Force Vaccine; a mission to vaccinate New Hampshire residents against COVID-19. We were vaccinating up to 1,600 patients a day locally and close to 7,000 patients state-wide. It was hard being away from my colleagues in the ICU at The Elliot, but I knew the work we were doing was essential to end the pandemic. The silver lining was it reconnected me with many of my nursing instructors and faculty from Rivier. Almost 15 years later, they were my patients; and I was honored to be their nurse,” Lindsey said. “I believe the world always has a way of showing us where we’re meant to be. The support I received from The Elliot during my deployment and the opportunity to give back to my community strengthened that belief. I am grateful for this recognition from my alma mater, Rivier University, and to The Elliot for its steadfast support of my military service.”
