Bethany Mechachonis, RN, Honored with Elliot Health System's Summer 2026 DAISY Award

Elliot Health System is proud to recognize Bethany Mechachonis, RN, resource nurse at the Elliot Breast Health Center, as the recipient of the Summer 2026 DAISY Award. Bethany was nominated by a colleague who shared the extraordinary impact she has on patients, families, and team members every day. Through her compassion, dedication, and unwavering support, Bethany exemplifies the very best of nursing care.

Patients facing a breast cancer diagnosis often find themselves navigating an overwhelming and emotional journey. From managing appointments and paperwork to coping with uncertainty and fear, even simple tasks can feel challenging. According to her nominator, Bethany provides more than clinical care. She offers comfort, understanding, and a trusted presence during some of life's most difficult moments.

"When you or a family member are diagnosed with breast cancer, it is understandably difficult to ask for help, keep track of provider names, fill out FMLA paperwork, put your thoughts into words, laugh at a silly joke, or even just smile," her colleague shared. "However, when you come to Elliot Breast Health for an appointment, you are guaranteed to open up your mind, heart and soul to Bethany."

Whether meeting with patients for the first time, supporting loved ones during post-operative visits, or celebrating survivorship milestones, Bethany creates an environment where patients feel comfortable, supported, and cared for. Her ability to build meaningful connections goes beyond providing a familiar face at appointments. For many patients, she becomes a trusted confidante and friend who can bring comfort and even a smile on what may be one of the hardest days of their lives.

In addition to the exceptional care she provides patients, Bethany is a dedicated mentor and role model for her colleagues. She invests in the growth and development of fellow nurses, helping to shape the next generation of compassionate caregivers. Her leadership extends beyond clinical expertise, serving as an example of partnership, friendship, and balance both inside and outside the workplace.

Despite the many responsibilities she carries supporting patients throughout their cancer journeys, Bethany also prioritizes her own well-being and her family. An active member of her yoga community and a devoted mother, she demonstrates the importance of caring for oneself while caring for others.

Her nominator summed it up best:" Bethany is the epitome of excellence in the nursing world and a great role model and example of a life-changing nurse for all nurses, regardless of their level of experience or area of expertise. Anyone would be more than lucky to work alongside her and, more importantly, be cared for by her."

Congratulations, Bethany, on receiving the Summer 2026 DAISY Award! Thank you for the compassion, expertise, and dedication you bring to every patient interaction, and for the inspiration and mentorship you provide to your colleagues every day.
