Descriptions:

Spirometry is one of the most commonly ordered lung function tests.  This test measures how much air you can breathe into your lungs and how much air you can quickly breathe out.

Pulse Oximetry is a test that measures oxygen levels with exercise

Overnight Pulse Oximetry is a test that measures oxygen levels while sleeping

Xolair is an injected medication prescribed by the Pulmonologist for patients with allergic asthma.

TB Skin Test (Mantoux) is a skin test given to determine if you have ever been exposed to tuberculosis

Home Sleep Test (HST) is a Sleep Study done at home that records heart rate, oxygen saturation, respiratory airflow and respiratory effort.

C-PAP Initiation & Management is an appointment scheduled with a sleep technician to assist newly diagnosed Sleep Apnea patients with compliance when using their CPAP device

Bronchoscopy is a procedure in which the Pulmonologist will examine the airways to your lungs with a thin, flexible, lighted tube called a bronchoscopy.

Pulmonary Function Test is a test performed by a respiratory therapist that measures airflow rates before and after the administration of a bronchodilator medication.

Methacholine Challenge Test is a test that is used to assist in the diagnosis of Asthma.  The patient breathes in a nebulized medication while various parameters of lung functions are measured before and after inhalation.

Cardio/Pulmonary Stress Test is an exercise test performed on a treadmill.  This test will measure gas exchange in addition to pulmonary and cardiac activity.  Breathing is done through a special mouth piece during the test to measure the amount of oxygen going in and the amount of carbon dioxide going out.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is a broad program that helps improve the well-being of people who have chronic (ongoing) breathing problems.  The program doesn’t replace medical therapy but is used with and includes exercise training, nutritional counseling, education, energy-conserving techniques, breathing strategies, psychological counseling and/or group support.

Polysomnography (Sleep Study) done “in lab” @ Homewood Suites with the attendance of a Sleep Technologist that records heart rate, oxygen saturation, respiratory airflow and respiratory effort.  This test generally requires a prior authorization from an insurance company.

Multiple Sleep Latency Test (Sleep Study) done “in lab” @ Homewood Suites with the attendance of a Sleep Technologist that records physiological measurements of sleep during multiple trials to access sleepiness.  This test generally requires a prior authorization from an insurance company.
