Yes, Elliot Hospital is home to Manchester's designated Level 2 Trauma Center. Trauma is a surgical specialty that is vastly different from routine emergency care. Hospital emergency rooms are equipped to treat everything from a headache to a heart attack. A trauma center, such as Elliot's, treats everything that an emergency room would treat, plus it can handle life or limb threatening injuries that other hospitals' emergency rooms are not equipped to manage. Elliot's Trauma Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. To receive the status of "Trauma Center," a hospital must meet strict standards established by the State of New Hampshire Department of Health, based on the guidelines of the American College of Surgeons.
Elliot is a 296-bed facility.
Yes. DNV-GL Healthcare is the accrediting organization for the Elliot Hospital. DNV Healthcare, Inc. is an operating company of Det Norske Veritas founded back in the 1800s. In 2008, DNV Healthcare was approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to deem acute care and critical access hospitals in compliance with the Conditions of Participation (CoPs) for hospitals. DNV has a worldwide reputation for quality and integrity in certification, standards development, and risk management which help health organizations achieve excellence by improving quality and patient safety through hospital accreditation, managing infection risk, management system certification, clinical program certification, and training. To maintain and earn accreditation, organizations must have an extensive on-site review by a team of DNV health care professionals, at least once every year. The purpose of the review is to evaluate the organization's performance in areas that affect your care. Accreditation may then be awarded based on how well the organizations met DNV standards.
At Elliot, N-I-C-U or "NICU" stands for Newborn Intensive Care Unit. At other facilities, NICU stands for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Which means the same thing. Elliot's NICU is Southern New Hampshire's only Level III Newborn Intensive Care Unit, is only one of three in New Hampshire, and a participant in the Vermont Oxford Network. At Elliot’s NICU, we care for the most critically ill infants, including those on ventilators, ranging from 23 weeks gestational age (or week of pregnancy) and up, and as small as 15 ounces.
Yes. Elliot is home to Manchester's only Pediatric/Adolescent unit, which cares for babies, children, and young adults up to age 18.
As a community-based hospital, long-term community service is at the heart of our healthcare mission - it influences our business decisions, relationships and vision for the future. This broader mission, which places accountability to the community over individual profit, is the chief difference between investor-owned health businesses and not-for-profit health care organizations such as Elliot. As a not-for-profit healthcare institution generating positive financial returns, the dollars generated are reinvested in the community's healthcare instead of benefiting any individual. Elliot Hospital reinvests by purchasing innovative capital equipment, upgrading facilities, providing charity care, and underwriting losses sustained by providing certain specialty services, which qualify for little or no reimbursement. Yes. Elliot Hospital provides interpreter services in-person or using different media.
