Giving Back: Cancer Survivor Supports Solinsky Center for Cancer Care at The Elliot

When Scott MacFarland, at the young age of 37, was diagnosed with Stage III rectal cancer after a colonoscopy at Elliot Gastroenterology, it changed his world. The Bedford, NH resident and real estate agent then met with providers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston who determined his treatment plan. For radiation treatments, he was referred to the Solinsky Center for Cancer Care at The Elliot.

When his radiation treatments began in December of 2020, the Solinsky Center for Cancer Care was only months old at the time. When Scott walked into the Cancer Center located at Elliot Hospital, he was relieved that a center like this was located in Manchester, close to home.

“The radiation treatment I received at the Solinsky Center for Cancer Care was key to beating back the cancer – my doctor said it stopped the cancer in its tracks,” said Scott. “What was at first Stage III cancer, was reduced to Stage I after my radiation treatments were complete.”

To support the Solinksy Center for Cancer Care and two other centers that cared for him, he plans to give 5% of his earned commission to cancer centers over the next three years, starting with the Solinsky Center in 2022.

Scott said, “Giving to the Solinsky Center for Cancer Care is the least I can do. There is no way I can repay the medical staff who saved my life. I’m very excited to be giving back.”
