Total Hip or Knee Replacement Patient Education Class

In order to help them better prepare for their stay, the King Unit Total Joint Committee has developed an informational program for patients with a scheduled total hip or knee replacement procedure at Elliot Hospital. Patients will learn:

  • How to prepare themselves before surgery
  • What to expect in the first 24 hours after surgery
  • Pain management
  • Exercise and rehabilitation
  • What potential needs may occur after discharge from the hospital

Group discussions will provide an opportunity to ask questions, discuss issues, address concerns, and relieve anxieties, as well as help patients to better prepare for their surgery and understand their stay on King Unit. Patients are encouraged to bring a family member or support person to this meeting.

Classes are held the first and third Thursday of every month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elliot Hospital’s Nursing Center (located on the ground floor of the hospital). Registration is required as class size is limited. To register for a class, please speak with your physician performing the surgery, who can provide you with more information and take care of the registration for you.

Please park in the back of the hospital in Lot # 7 (which is identified on the light posts) and enter through the glass doors (once you enter, you’ll be in a lobby between two cafeterias). Turn left into the second doorway (the first door way would bring you to the cafeteria) and The Nursing Center will be located directly in front of you.

*In the event of inclement weather, please listen to WZID 95.7 FM for class cancellations.
