Pharmacy Residency Program


Participation Requirements


Staffing                                                                                                                               

Residents currently staff every other weekend, though this is subject to change based on department needs. The residents will also work one weekday evening shift for part of the year as deemed necessary to keep staffing capabilities up to the standard required to perform duties.  Each resident is required to staff two holiday shifts.

Committee Involvement

  • The residents will present at the monthly Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P & T) Committee based on project work throughout the year.
  • They will be responsible for joining at least one committee and will be required to attend meetings throughout the duration of the residency.  Examples include:
    • Medication Safety Committee
    • Anticoagulation Safety Workgroup
    • Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee
    • Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P & T) Committee

 

Conferences

The resident will attend the following:

  • ASHP’s Midyear Clinical Meeting
  • NHSHP’s Cabin Fever CE Weekend
  • Eastern States Conference for Pharmacy Residents and Preceptors

In order to successfully complete the PGY-1 residency program at the Elliot Health System, the resident must do the following:

  • Complete all assigned projects (see list below)
  • Earn the status of “Achieved” for at least 80% of the required outcomes
  • Earn the status of “Satisfactory Progress” for the remaining 20% of the outcomes
  • Complete staffing component of the residency
  • Complete longitudinal rotations

Projects

At a minimum, the resident is required to complete the following during the course of the residency:

  • Residency research project
    • Presentation of results at Eastern States Conference for Pharmacy Residents and Preceptors
    • Manuscript
  • Physician In-service
  • Nursing In-service
  • Pharmacy In-service (2)
  • Journal Club (2)
  • Drug Monograph (2)
  • Newsletter article (2)
  • Drug Use Evaluation
  • Precept pharmacy student
