Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit (CICU)

The Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit (CICU) is located on the fifth floor of the Elliot Hospital. The unit is comprised of three private rooms and 22 semi-private rooms. Each nurses' station is equipped with a central monitoring system to provide cardiac monitoring for every patient as well as a telemetry technician to assist in monitoring patients.

About Our Department

The CICU provides care to inpatients and outpatients with cardiac medical diagnoses. The unit serves patients with a wide variety of cardiac, neurological, and medical diagnoses which require close monitoring. Diagnoses may include chest pain, coronary artery disease, angina, myocardial ischemia or infarction, arrhythmia, syncope, congestive heart failure, drug or substance overdose, seizures, and sepsis. Patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, cardioversion, pacemaker, or Automatic Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator insertion are cared for on the CICU.

All our patients are assessed and reviewed through an interdisciplinary team approach. The disciplines that work collaboratively on this cardiac care unit include:

Visiting

The Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Family members, care partners, and visitors are encouraged to visit with patients during the day and early evening to promote healing and rest. Children under 14 years of age are permitted to visit when supervised by an adult visitor.
