Palliative Care

Patient Testimonials

“My husband was living with cancer for 2 years when it was suggested by an emergency room doctor at Elliot hospital that we try palliative care in the hopes to improve his quality of life. The palliative care team at the Elliot hospital provided us with treatment options intending to relieve his pain, anxiety, and difficulty eating. My husband came from a mindset that he was going to survive, and he was very apprehensive in taking the medications. Dr. Kornfeld and Kim Cushing were very supportive and understanding and encouraged him to try the medications without pressuring him. They gave him suggestions while coming from a place of love, caring and understanding. Dr. Kornfeld and Kim Cushing were both a gift to us as they worked together as a great team and provided medical and psychological support to meet his needs for the best care possible. I am forever grateful for the care my husband received at Elliot hospital.”

“Fear and denial are powerful forces when facing difficult health decisions. In such times, wise, compassionate counsel is as important as medical expertise. Fortunately we had both through Elliot Hospital’s palliative care department. During my mother’s final battle with Alzheimer’s, Eliot’s doctors and nurses were a blessing for my mother and our family. Offering the very best in wisdom and guidance, they helped turn the inevitable into the sacred. When we needed it most, the palliative care department held my family together, allowing us to move forward during the most stressful of times. One never wants the circumstances for their services, but if you need them, you will be eternally grateful for their care.”

“We were blessed that the medical team at Elliot Hospital were able to quickly diagnose the underlying factors that led to my mom’s condition and you provided us with the clarity that we needed to make the important life decisions on my mom’s behalf.”

“Thank you so much for your patience, skill, and caring ways during our most painful hours. You have helped us in so many ways.”

“Thank you for introducing us and for being a doctor and a friend. You showed how important the warm and friendly touch can be to a patient and others.”

“We cannot adequately express our gratitude for all you did for our dad during his final hours at the Elliot Hospital. You helped us make and come to terms with some very difficult decisions, always helping us to keep dad’s care the priority. You also made it possible for our parents to see each other one last time to be able to say goodbye for now. Thank you for all that you do, especially during this uncertain time. We will never forget your compassion and kindness.”

“My family and I want to thank you for the loving and tender care you administered to my beloved husband during his brief stay at the Elliot. Your kindness will always be remembered.”
