About Gillian Richmond, MD

Gillian Richmond, M.D., a board-certified family medicine physician, earned a Doctor of Medicine at St. George’s University School of Medicine in St. George, Grenada, and her B.S. in kinesiology at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dr. Richmond completed her family medicine residency at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Fla.

“Primary care is where you develop relationships with patients,” Dr. Richmond says. “You’re there for their ups and downs of life, the big things and the little things. That relationship is really my primary goal.”

She practices broad-spectrum family medicine – “it’s very rewarding to see patients of all ages, from newborns to geriatrics” – with a particular interest in women’s health, musculoskeletal work and conditions involving the joints and bones.

“For me, primary care providers are the quarterbacks,” Dr. Richmond says. “We try to figure out where the ball is going to go next and make sure we get the feedback from all the auxiliary providers. It is a team effort. We’re here to coordinate and direct to provide the patient with the best possible care.”

She notes that the ideal patient/provider relationship is one built on trust and open communication. “What I like most about primary care is that I get to be someone’s confidante, someone they trust,” Dr. Richmond says. “To develop a relationship with a patient takes time, energy and effort, being able to sit and listen and address them as an individual with individual needs.”

In her spare time, her hobby is baking - everything from desserts to savory bakes. She also likes to spend time with her family, play tennis and hike. “I grew up in the Rocky Mountains so I’m excited to return to the mountains and having an opportunity to explore all the peaks,” she says.
